About: A fine arts painter turned furniture maker, I have always worked with my hands and head. A native of Fairhaven, I have lived and worked in both northern and southern New England after graduating from the Swain School of Design in the early 70′s. In 2000 I moved back to the area where I grew up and set up shop in a light-filled space at Hatch Street Studios in New Bedford’s north end to work at my new passion and skill – furniture making.
Naming my furniture studio “Floating Stone” was something quite familiar to me, because my own last name translates to “stone that floats” in Italian. Today I make and sell my custom pieces (heavily influenced by the American Arts and Crafts Movement and 16th century Asian craft) throughout New England and North America. I specialize in handcrafted tables, bookcases, consoles and case pieces featuring highly figured hard woods sourced from FSC certified dealers who buy only from managed, renewable forests.
I work closely with my clients to create custom pieces of furniture — pieces that standing alone in a simple room stand proudly as works of art.
