This event has two goals: To highlight the great strides made over the past year for the South Coast LBGTQ Network and to introduce the new Program Coordinator.

On Saturday, May 30 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., the South Coast LGBTQ Network will be sponsoring its second annual spring event, “Making it Happen” at the Waypoint Center on New Bedford’s historic waterfront. The Network welcomes everyone to get involved including LGBTQ individuals, friends, families, neighbors, community leaders, businesses and allied organizations to ensure that LGBTQ at-risk youth, isolated seniors, and parents who need more information find the resources and support necessary to make our community stronger.

This event has two goals: To highlight the great strides made over the past year for the South Coast LBGTQ Network and to introduce the new Program Coordinator. Thanks to the profits from last year’s event celebrating a decade of marriage equality and an impact grant from the Lipsky-Whittaker Fund, a Program Coordinator has been hired who will focus on increasing community outreach and fundraising, assessing the needs and developing resources for LGBT homebound, isolated seniors and homeless, at-risk LGBTQ youth in our communities.

“The Steering Committee has been working diligently over the past year to realize the major goal of hiring a Program Coordinator, said Rebecca McCullough, Chair of the South coast LGBTQ Network, “At this year’s event we will be introducing the new Program Coordinator, highlighting programs available for LGBTQ youth and seniors, and recognizing the growing number of Network organizations and agencies who have been working together and “Making It Happen” for LGBTQ individuals and families throughout the south coast.”

The Network, a project of the Community Foundation, includes Coastline Elderly Services, Fairhaven Council on Aging, New Bedford Alliance of Gay and Lesbian Youth (NB-AGLY), SouthCoast Equality, SouthCoast Fair Housing, SouthCoast Youth, Education and Schools (SC-YES), The Women’s Center, Women’s Fund of Southeastern MA, YWCA of Southeastern MA, UMass Dartmouth Center for Women, Gender & Sexuality and the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office. Its mission is to build and maintain a comprehensive support network for LGBTQ individuals and families across the age spectrum.

Tickets can be reserved by contacting the Network at sclgbtqnetwork@gmx.com or calling Rebecca at 508-996-3343, Ext. 25. All proceeds benefit general operating for the South Coast LGBTQ Network and support the Program Coordinator position to enable the Network to grow programs, services and resources for LGBTQ youth, seniors, individuals and families across the age spectrum.
