Improvements to the Casa da Saudade Library Branch Enhance Public Access to the Facility

2:45 p.m. Wednesday, October 15, 2014 at the Casa da Saudade Library Branch, 58 Crapo Street.

At 2:45 p.m. on Wednesday, October 15, 2014, city and state officials will join with New Bedford Public Library staff and the community in marking the completion of the installation of a new elevator at the Casa da Saudade Library Branch which will expand public access to the facility.

The Casa branch collection consists of English, Portuguese and Crioulo materials. The Casa Branch building is also home to the Immigrants Assistance Center, a local organization dedicated to “helping immigrants overcome language, cultural and economic barriers, and integrate into the American way of life while maintaining their ethnic identity and pride.”

The Escola Oficial Portuguesa, an organization dedicated to teaching the Portuguese language and culture to children in grades 1 through 6, is also located in the Casa Branch.

New Bedford Mayor Jon Mitchell and State Representative Antonio F. D. Cabral are scheduled to attend the event.
