New Bedford Civil War Round Table Memorial Day Weekend Ceremonies

The New Bedford Civil War Round Table will put on two Memorial Day weekend ceremonies, both on Saturday May 28th.

The first ceremony will be at Rural Cemetery on 149 Dartmouth St, New Bedford at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday May 28th, in the Civil War burial section of the cemetery. This ceremony will feature a reading of the Gettysburg Address, a gun salute, re-enactors in Union uniforms, and a wreath presentation by Ruth and Abby.Our President, Joe Langlois, will be in charge of this event.

Then, at 11:00 a.m., we will meet at St Mary’s Cemetery, Route 6, across from Shaw’s, near the gravesite of Union Pvt. William Downey, a recipient of the Medal of Honor during the Civil War. His descendants are presenting his Medal of Honor to Fort Taber~Fort Rodman Military Museum for safekeeping and display. The New Bedford Civil War Round Table will conduct a ceremony and receive the Medal on behalf of the Museum.
