Council President Linda M. Morad has announced a change to the 2016 New Bedford City Council meeting schedule. Beginning March 3, 2016, the City Council will hold an additional Council meeting on the first Thursday of each Month, for the celebration and awarding of official City Council Citations and Resolutions.

“One of the wonderful traditions of the City Council is to celebrate momentous events within our City and recognize outstanding deeds of citizens of all ages, through the awarding of Official Citations and Resolutions,” said Council President Morad. “The current practice has been for the Council to present these tributes at the beginning of regular meetings. There have been situations in the past where the Council agenda has been lengthy, and consequently the Councillors had to limit the length of the presentations and the comments of those receiving the Citations and Resolutions.”

Establishing a meeting dedicated to Citations and Resolutions will allow the Council to honor New Bedford’s residents and celebrate the accomplishments and events of the recipients.

Further, this change will afford the Councillors the opportunity to solely focus on the business of the City Council during the regular Thursday meetings, to include public hearings, financial and legislative issues for which the Council has responsibility and jurisdiction.

“1 applaud my colleagues for being willing to add this meeting to what is already a full schedule on the Council calendar. The Councillors understand the importance of all aspects of our role in the business of the City and strive to fulfill our oath and commitment to the residents of the City of New Bedford,” said Morad.
