Chair-Throwing Student Expelled From New Bedford High School

Kemar Omar Roselus has been expelled from New Bedford High School following a due process hearing on Friday. A video taken on March 24th showed Kemar confronting and then throwing a chair at New Bedford High School teacher Joanne Muara because she confiscated his phone for charging it during class. In a video interview, Joanne Muara stated that she has decided to step down as a teacher of New Bedford High School at the end of the school year.

According to the Superintendent of New Bedford School Pia Durkin, there is a no trespass order against Kemar for New Bedford High School and he will be placed into an alternative school setting. She also stated that an investigation continues into the behavior of the other students shown on the video. Kemar also faces criminal charges.

According to the New Bedford Police Department, Kemar Omar Roselus, 18 years of age of New Bedford, has been charged with assault by means of dangerous weapon on a person over 60, and disturbing the school, and malicious destruction of personal property. He will appear in court at a later date.
