“On Thursday evening at 8:19pm, a 911 call was received from a passerby reporting smoke extending from a fishing vessel moored to the pier at the bottom of Hervey Tichon Ave.
Command Unit 2 confirmed a working fire aboard the 80’ scalloper F/V Heritage, which was moored to the pier. Fire crews stretched an attack line and a back-up line onto the vessel and extinguished the fire burning on deck-level of the interior. The fire was prevented from extending into the pilot house. Marine 38 also responded and as is normally done to prevent personnel from falling between the vesels or the pier, pushed both vessels together and secure against the pier.
The Hazmat Officer, Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), and the Coast Guard also responded. The fire origin and cause is under investigation by the NBFD Fire Investigation Unit. No civilian or firefighter injuries were reported.
City of New Bedford Police Department (Official) and New Bedford EMS also assisted on scene.”-New Bedford Fire Department.
