Bishop Stang High School, a diocesan, co-educational, college preparatory school located on the Southcoast, announced it had five high school scientists who won at the Massachusetts Region III science fair. The results earned the student competitors a seat at the May State Science Fair to be held at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in Boston.

“Bishop Stang is known for its strong science department and the creative learning that takes place with experimentation, research and discovery,” said Kathy Crosson, Science Department Chairperson and 37-year teaching veteran at Bishop Stang. “We are extremely proud of these students for their results and the diversity of our competitive submissions, but more importantly we are excited for their experience as it continues to fuel a love of learning and quest for understanding science.”

Westport residents and Bishop Stang sophomores, Noah Doerr and Santiago Bernal, won a 2nd place award and special award of $100 for the Best Biomolecular Project in Microbiology. Portsmouth resident and freshman Kathryn Gallison received a 2nd place award and special award of $100 from the American Meteorological Society. Sophomores Helena Shea (Portsmouth resident) and Sarah Carney (Middletown residents) also received a 2nd place award.
