You’re invited to the 80th Birthday Celebration for Sister Sonia Sanchez

The New Bedford Historical Society will be hosting an 80th birthday celebration for Sister Sonia Sanchez, poet, activist, and one of the founders of the Black Arts Movement. The event will be held at Gallery X on William Street in New Bedford on Thursday, October 23 from 6:30 – 8:30 PM. The celebration is free and open to the public, we just ask that you RSVP so we have some idea of numbers.

Everett Hoagland will be bringing remarks about her legacy and a few of our local poets will read and talk about Sonia’s impact on their craft. Please feel free to share the attached flier.

Sonia will also be the keynote speaker at the Connecting for Change conference Friday, October 24 between 9AM – Noon that will take place at the Zeiterion. The fee for the opening ceremony is $10.
